Kirsi Julku – LAYERS

Young South Ostrobothnian Artist of the Year 2024

7.6.2025 – 17.8.2025

Humans, nature and the cycle of life find their place in Kirsi Julku’s paintings. In her works, skeletons move in everyday environments, reflecting thoughts, feelings and inner worlds.

The title of the exhibition, Layers, refers to Julku’s view of humanity: each of us has layers – experiences, roles, heritage, societal influences and unconscious qualities. His work with oil paints is also layered: each brushstroke builds the foundation for the next, and small details open up avenues for new interpretations. Ultimately, it is up to the viewer to decide what the work means to them.

Kirsi Julku (born 1993) lives and works in Tampere. She graduated as a visual artist from the Kankaanpää Art School in 2023. Her works have been exhibited in various parts of Finland, including the Ahjo Art Center (Joensuu), the G12 Gallery (Helsinki) and the Uusi Kipinäs Gallery (Lahti). Julku’s works are in both the Kankaanpää City Museum and private collections.
