The Nelimarkka Museum has acted as a museum with regional responsibility of art in Southern Ostrobothnia since 2020. The Museum is responsible for providing information, expertise and services related to art in the province. Emphasis is also placed on sharing collaborative networks and museum professional practices, as well as information on the province’s art resources.

The responsibilities of the responsibility museum are divided into three areas:

• Cooperation with museums and other actors in the region, acting as an expert in public art and collections, regional strategies and programs, and related group work and development projects.
• Development and promotion of documentation and recording of art and visual culture and their digital accessibility. Promoting regional accessibility and use of information systems.
• Regional services that reach audiences and communities in their area of responsibility, as well as giving advice related to the region’s visual arts.
